A Tale of Two Faiths: Christians, It’s Time to Learn from Hamtramck, Michigan

The all-Muslim city council in Hamtramck, Michigan, bans the public display of the LGBT flag

The Unity and Convictions of the Muslim Community: A Lesson for Christians

Every June, the LGBT movement throws a tantrum fit that would put any cranky toddler shame. Their goal? Acceptance and attention. It’s as if they were toting a screechy, ear-piercing megaphone for the sole purpose of shaming Americans for holding traditional values.

Of course, they enlist other mercenaries to help wage their war on god-fearing Americans – Target, Kohl’s, Pet Smart, and even Cracker Barrel.

Corporations, in their zeal to be in the “in-crowd,” muck up their logos, apparel, and storefronts with bright, bold, unmissable rainbows. Public institutions hoist the Pride flag high on their poles, peddle LGBT propaganda, and deck out police cars and firetrucks in a paint box explosion of kaleidoscope colors.

This year, even the White House, in a move that should make anyone with a sense of decorum cringe, chose to display the Rainbow Flag sandwiched between two American flags in a shocking violation of the U.S. Flag Code.

And let’s not forget the U.S. Airforce, which deemed it fitting to release a picture of a soldier saluting the Pride flag.

It’s like we’ve stepped into a technicolor dream world where the queering of America is now a national priority.

But there’s a glimmer of hope amidst this carnival of color run amok.

Hamtramck, Michigan, a city where the majority identify as Muslim, did what so many Christians are too timid to do. They fought back. Their all-Muslim city council, backed by a population that still values common-sense tradition, declared ‘no more’ to Pride flags on public property.

But you probably haven’t heard much about it, if anything, right? Why?

For the mainstream media, reporting on this story is like asking a doting parent to pick a favorite child. News organizations have no desire to disparage either Muslims or gays. They are in bed with both (pardon the pun, given the nature of this commentary).

And, in true form, the lamestream media buried the event, quietly tucking it under the proverbial rug, away from the limelight.

It does make you wonder, though.

Would the story have earned a different place in the news cycle – maybe even prime time – if it was a markedly Christian city council that had banned the public display of Pride flags?

It makes you think, doesn’t it?

Muslims Presenting a United Front

Let’s take a closer look at what happened in Michigan to see what Christians can learn.

Hamtramck is home to America’s first all-Muslim city council.

On June 13th, Hamtramck became the undisputed battleground over whether the government should use tax dollars to promote sodomy. The city, with a population of 26,000, elected officials willing to fight for their religious views on homosexuality.

Even though LGBT advocates used sarcasm and child-like antics to argue their point, Hamtramck officials remained composed and professional.

Hamtramck Mayor, Amer Ghalib, summarized the council’s decision this way: “It’s not targeting any specific group, but it doesn’t allow any preferential treatment for any group either.”

Precisely. This isn’t an attack on what people do in the bedroom; it simply says the government will not promote sodomy over heterosexual sex.

Hamtramck officials voted unanimously to restrict the display of flags on government property to just five specific flags. These include the American flag, the Michigan flag, and flags representing the native countries of its immigrant residents.

Council member, Nayeem Choudhury, made a good point: “Why do you have to have the flag shown on government property to be represented? You’re already represented. We already know who you are.”

This decision still protects the rights of individuals and businesses to display the Pride flag or any other flag on their properties.

It’s about keeping government-owned spaces neutral without showing favoritism toward promoting a particular sexual activity because that’s all it is, convincing citizens that the gay sex lifestyle is best for all.

Take Note, Christians. This Is a Winning Strategy.

So, how can Christians duplicate the success of the Hamtramck Muslims?

It is critical to understand that the Muslim community is tightly knit, rooted in their firm adherence to the Quran, which they view as God’s unerring word.

Regardless of their divisions into various sects, such as Shia, Sunni, and Sufi, they universally regard homosexuality as a sin.

In almost every way, the mosques are united in a common political objective, embodying the concept of Dar al-Islam or “the abode of Islam,” which explicitly excludes homosexuality.

But let us look at our own house.

In recent years, Christian churches have charted a different course.

Not only have they cowardly retreated from political involvement, but they’ve begun to bend and twist the teachings of the scripture, trying to make it a friend (even an abode!) of the modern hedonist.

A more troubling trend is their open arms policy towards LGBTQ+ individuals, going so far as to welcome them into leadership roles.

This is a far cry from the traditional Christian values that have been America’s bedrock for centuries.

The unity demonstrated by the Hamtramck Muslim community should be a wake-up call for us.

If we, as Christians, yearn for an America that upholds and cherishes our time-honored Christian values, we must rally together. We must be unwavering, stand firm in our convictions, make our voices heard politically, and defend the Word of God with zeal and passion.

Our Christian obligation is not only to defend our faith but to safeguard our great nation’s moral and spiritual backbone.

But to do that, Christians first need to re-require their backbone and remember this warning:

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” (Matt. 5:12)

The LGBT footsteps are coming. Trampling is on the way. The steel tips of those boots are already being felt. Well, except for in Hamtramck, MI, where local Muslims put the Christian Church to shame.
