UK Allows Extremist Cleric To Visit, Still Bans Islam Critic

A Green Party candidate for parliament in the United Kingdom, Peter Thatchett, is criticizing the British government for allowing an anti-Semitic Saudi preacher to come to the country, the Jihad Watch blog reports.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman al-Sudais, who was appointed by the Saudi Royal Family as the chief cleric of Mecca's Grand Mosque, spoke at a Saudi-funded London mosque on August 4. Thatchett's campaign has distributed an email with some of al-Sudais anti-Semitic quotes, which includes describing Jews as "the worst of mankind," "scum of the earth," "monkeys and pigs," and calling on Muslims to "say farewell to peace initiatives with these people [the Jews]."

The cleric has made previous statements degrading Christians and Hindus as well, and has been denied entry into the U.S. and Canada for his hate speech. On the other hand, supporters of al-Sudais point to his statements against suicide and attacking members of other faiths living in Islamic countries.

The decision to allow al-Sudais to enter the United Kingdom stands in contrast to the refusal to allow Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders into the country for his controversial statements and film attacking the religion of Islam and its holy book, the Koran.
