Video Shows Somali Youth Harassing and Assaulting Homosexual in MN
A YouTube video dated June 27, 2009 shows about 15 Somali youth harassing and throwing rocks at a homosexual man leaving the Gay Pride Festival in Minneapolis, MN. The video, which shows the youth showing obscenities at the man, was taken by his friend and posted online.
"See how I'm not scared at all?" the man said as he walked away from the youth, who were insulting him, saying "I hate gay people" and various graphic anti-homosexual statements.
There have been numerous reports warning about the lack of assimilation by Somali refugees in the United States. Several Somali-Americans in Minneapolis, the site of the videotaped harassment, are expected to be indicted by a federal jury in the coming weeks for recruiting over 20 young Somalis to travel to their native land and fight on the side of al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group trying to take over the East African country.
The Somali communities are also causing concern in Tennessee. Counter-terrorism expert Dave Gaubatz reported on evidence of extremism and possible child abuse at the Al-Farooq Mosque in Nashville, which is primarily Somali.
Brian Moseley of the Shelbyville-Times Gazzette won an award for his series detailing how the Somali immigrants were changing Shelbyville, T.N, a small town of 17,000. Residents reported the immigrants as having difficulty in dealing with female authority figures at schools and hospitals, and described them as being hostile to firefighters and police.
