CAN attends ‘Geert Wilders Free Speech Summit’
(April 28, 2009) Christian Action Network (CAN) was part of the Host Committee for the first annual important 'Free Speech Summit' held in Delray Beach, Florida on April 27, 2009, where Geert Wilders was given the International Freedom of Speech Award.
Mr. Wilders is a Member of Parliament in the Netherlands and the leader of the Party for Freedom. He is Europe's most high-profile defender of freedom of speech and conscience and an eloquent opponent of radical Islam. Mr. Wilders has received death threats for his film, "Fitna" and is under 24-hour protection. "Hate Speech" laws have also been used by his opponents in Europe in an attempt to silence him.
Wilders gave several presentations in South Florida leading up the Monday night event in Del Ray. The Christian Action Network was present for and taped the entire weekend as part of an upcoming film, which will include a one-hour interview with Mr. Wilders.
Other Host Committee members included: ACT! For America, Center for Security Policy, Pamela Geller, Jerry Gordon, New English Review, Americans Against Hate, Joyce Kaufman, Nidra Poller and Lt. Col. Allen West. The "Free Speech Summit" was organized by Tom Trento with the Florida Security Council.
