Al-Qaeda Buying Emergency Service Vehicles on Ebay

The British domestic intelligence service has discovered that Al-Qaeda is purchasing dozens of ambulances, police cars, and fire engines on EBay, the popular online auction web site, The Epoch Times has reported. The vehicles are said to be selling for as little as $2,230, and ambulances have been used to carry out bombings in Iraq and Israel.

“It is almost rare that police will stop such vehicles on suspicious grounds.  An ambulance rigged with high explosives could drive into any ultra-sensitive target like a nuclear power station or even Whitehall,” the report quoted a senior MI5 official as saying.

British authorities have contacted EBay and asked them to stop allowing the sale of emergency service vehicles, but EBay is resisting, saying they will not do so unless legislation is passed forcing them.

A national security committee has been assembled to meet with British counter-terrorism authorities about how to combat the threat. The officials are looking into decommissioning sold vehicles so that law enforcement authorities can identify which ones are being actively used by emergency service vehicles.
