George Mason University Accepts Money From Non-Profit Under Investigation
George Mason University has accepted a $1.5 million donation from a Muslim non-profit organization under investigation for sponsoring terrorism, The Washington Times has reported.
The organization being investigated is named the International Institute for Islamic Thought. Their Northern Virginia office was raided by federal authorities in March 2002 as part of a terrorism investigation. A dozen arrests and four indictments were made. The organization continues to operate as no charges have been made against them as a whole.
The IIIT has also been accused by some terrorism experts of being part of Muslim Brotherhood, a radical Islamic organization based out of Egypt, whose members founded Hamas.
The donation will be used for the university’s Islamic Studies Program. Temple University did not accept their donation from the organization.
