Extremists From Somalia Moving to United Kingdom
The director of MI5, the United Kingdom’s domestic intelligence service, is warning that dozens of terrorists have receiving instruction in training camps in Somalia and fought in the ongoing civil war there and are returning to the country, The Telegraph is reporting.
“The numbers I hear [going from Britain to Somalia] are 50, 60 or 70, but in reality we don't know. You don't need big numbers for terrorism,” the report quoted Peter Neumann, the head of the Centre for the Study of Radicalization, as saying.
The Christian Action Network has previously covered reports warning of Somalis in the United States dissapearing and possibly going to Somalia to fight on the side of Islamic extremists.
Yahoo! News reports that between 20 and 40 young Somalis have disappeared in Minneapolis alone. Patrick Poole wrote in Pajamas Media that disappearances are also occurring in Columbus, Atlanta, Boston, San Diego, Seattle, and even Denmark.
Poole also warned of a radical Islamic Somali network that continues to operate in the United States.
““…there exists an active recruiting and transportation network in the U.S., including Minneapolis, for Somali-run terrorist training camps, many of which have recently reopened. In many instances, these same Somali leaders purporting ignorance and innocence for the local media are not only aware of these recruiting operations, but have actively participated in them,” he wrote.
The disappearances came after a video was posted on radical Islamic websites by a Somali group called the Shabab al-Mujahideen is calling on Muslims in Europe and the U.S. to come join their forces in Somalia. The video was translated and reported on by The Middle East Media Research Institute.
Approximately 250,000 Somalis currently live in the United Kingdom.
