GiveSendGo says Canadian court has no jurisdiction to stop donations going to truckers

Using a piece of Canada’s legal code that would make charitable donations into “offence-related property,” like a drug dealer’s car or cash, the Canadian government is trying block protesting truckers from getting the funds people are showering upon them.

The crowdfunding website GoFundMe already turned on the truckers in early February, proving its worthlessness to anyone who doesn’t align with its management’s leftist politics.

A second money-raising site is saying” “Not so fast,” according to The Daily Wire.

GoFundMe’s cowardly move deprived the truckers of some $10 million, and drove the effort to Christian crowdfunding site GiveSendGo. Now that the latter has raised over $8 million, an Ontario court says it has effectively frozen access to donations to truckers and other Canadians taking part in the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, and elsewhere.

A statement from Premier Doug Ford’s office on Feb. 10 said that under 490.8 of the Canadian Criminal Code, donations made to GiveSendGo’s “Freedom Convoy 2022” and “Adopt-a-Trucker” campaign pages are prohibited from being distributed. A spokesperson for the premier said the order “binds any and all parties with possession or control over these donations.”

GiveSendGo is pushing back. The company tweeted late on Feb. 10 that Canada has “absolutely zero jurisdiction” over the money and that all donations made on its platform will go to their intended charities, including the Freedom Convoy.

The convoy, a grass-roots uprising of everyday working Canadians led by big-rig drivers, has drawn more than 50,000 truckers and is protesting the COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions throughout Canada.

“Know this!” GiveSendGo tweeted. “Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo. All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns, not least of which is The Freedom Convoy campaign.”
