Home Depot store wants white, Christian, heterosexual, males to start ‘unpacking’ their privilege

Home Depot believes there’s good reason to hate and oppress some people, and that’s if you think those people might have *privilege* that you do not.

At one store in Canada, an official-looking company leaflet was posted in an employee lunchroom and makes clear whom it is OK to hate, in Home Depot’s eyes. The leaflet, photographed then shared widely on Twitter on March 22, is titled “Leading Practices: Unpacking privilege” and includes Home Depot’s logo.

The notice to staffers explains the concept of “white privilege,” and offers a privilege checklist for employees should expect to go sit in the back of the bus because they are white, male, Christian, not transgender, able-bodied and heterosexual.

A spokesperson for the big-box home improvement store, based Atlanta, told DailyMail.com on March 22 that the notice was nothing but a “resource in the company’s Canadian division “and not part of any required programming.”

Yet it does look unquestionably official.

The racism-based information sheet first offers a general definition of the word “privilege,” then goes on to explain the terms “Social Privilege” and “White Privilege,” the latter being defined as “societal privilege that benefits white people beyond what is commonly experienced by people of color under the same social, political and economic circumstances.”

The packet goes on to explain “What privilege looks like” and includes examples of privileged behavior and convictions:

  • If you’re confident that the police exist to protect you
  • If while growing up, college was an expectation and not a dream
  • If you can expect time off from work to celebrate your religious holidays

Another section of the packet pushes people to start conversations about privilege and offers tips for addressing this “uncomfortable” subject matter with those who are “uninformed” or “defensive.”

That is, how to exercise a little privilege of your own.

Critics are slamming Home Depot for imposing “woke” values on workers, and many have threatened to stop shopping there.
