No Intelligence Indicating Attack On Super Bowl

A joint intelligence report by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security says that there is no credible intelligence indicating that terrorists will try to attack the Super Bowl, the Associated Press reported.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the safest place in the country will be inside Raymond James Stadium or inside the security footprint of the Super Bowl,” the spokesperson for Tampa law enforcement, Laura McElroy was quoted as saying.

The Intelligence Community has warned in the past that high-profile sports and entertainment events could become terrorist targets.

“Al-Qaida could meet its objectives of mass casualties, economic damage, and psychological impact with an attack against a stadium or arena during an event in the United States,” an intelligence report in March 2008 warned.

Concern was also raised about this year’s Super Bowl due to the theft of law enforcement uniforms and credentials in Florida last year. However, Fox 29 News reported that the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department said that only five uniforms belonging to the agency went missing last year, and it was casual attire used by evidence technicians and not police officers.
