In a forthcoming new song, called ‘Closed on Sundays’ Kanye West is heard paying tribute to the fast food chain Chick-Fil-A, which some have accused of being anti-LGBT+.
The song is part of West’s new gospel-inspired album called Jesus is King: A Kanye West Experience. The chorus and part of the lyrics were made available online after a promotional listening party.
There is a strong reference to Chick-Fil-A in the chorus, which is known to close its doors on Sunday for religious purposes. Chick-Fil-A owner Dan Cathy has been under fire for opposing same sex marriage but also praised by others.
The fast food chain has also gained a ‘homophobic’ reputation for donating millions of dollars to multiple anti-gay groups, such as Exodus International, the Family Research Council, and Focus on the Family.
Director of Collective Action for Safe Spaces, Dana White, said in a statement reported by the New York Daily News that, “Kanye’s lyrics here are an anti-LGBTQ stance with strategic timing.”
“We’re clear on where Chick-fil-A stands and where they put their money when it comes to the human and civil rights of LGBTQ+ folks. We’re clear that the Trump administration is currently targeting LGBTQ+ folks.”
Alternatively, the song could simply be a representation of Kanye’s love for fast foods.
