British Orphanage Tied To Terrorism Front in Bangladesh

The Times Online report that the authorities in Bangladesh have raided an orphanage run by the Green Crescent charity based in the United Kingdom. The owner of the charity, Faisal Mostafa, lives in Stockport. Four employees of the chairty were arrested by the Bangladeshi authorities. The Daily Mail reported on March 26 that Mostafa had also been arrested in Bangladesh.

"We found small arms - about nine or ten in total - plus equipment to make small arms, about 3,000 rounds of ammunition, two walkie-talkies, two remote-control devices and four sets of army uniforms," Lieutenant-Colonel Munir Haque, who led the Bangladeshi raid, told The Times.

"We also found enough explosives and other equipment to make several hundred grenades. We found some ordinary Islamic books, but others that are in line with extremists like [Osama] bin Laden."

.Mostafa was arrested for being a suspect in an Al-Qaeda bomb plot, but was acquitted of the charges in February 2002.

Mostafa was previously sentenced to four years in prison in 1996 for illegally possessing a firearm but was acquitted of charges that explosives were found in his home. He was arrested again in July 2008 at an airport after a pistol was found in his suitcase and received a suspended sentence.

"Dr Mostafa is known as a quiet, industrious professional man who advises companies how to transport dangerous materials safely," The Times Online report said.
