Myrick agenda aims at CAIR

NC Rep. Sue Myrick’s agenda against terrorist infiltration aims at the Council on American-Islamic Relations as a foreign lobby.

North Carolina Congresswoman Sue Myrick’s recently announced 10-point agenda against Islamic terrorist infiltration singles out a well known Islamic advocacy group, claiming it is a lobby organ for foreign Islamic governments.

Myrick also alleges the Council on American-Islamic Relations is far from humanitarian, but is in fact a partisan, pro-terrorist apologist group working to assist radical Islamic agendas subversive of the U.S. government and the safety of Americans.

Myrick wants the IRS to at least pull the plug on CAIR’s 501(c)(3) non-profit status “which restricts lobbying on behalf of a foreign government,” a statement released by Myrick’s Washington DC office said.

“CAIR’s website claims, and its communications director has claimed...they receive no foreign government support, but CIAR’s headquarters near the U.S. Capitol were until 2005 owned by the ruler of Dubai, who put up nearly $1 million,” the statement added, for CAIR.

Dubai’s ruler also pledged to support CAIR with a $50 million endowment from his personal foundation, according to Myrick.

“CAIR also has received $500,000 from Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, and $250,000 from the Saudi-based Islamic Development Bank,” Myrick’s statement said. “Records show that financial support has also been provided by the Bank of Kuwait.”

Myrick offered as evidence for public consideration a June 2007 report on CAIR’s lobbying effort before the state legislature of New York for EID-al-Adha and Eid-al-Fitr Islamic holidays to be recognized in the public schools.

CAIR’s ongoing efforts include advancing Islam in New York state schools, plus a systematic push to create Khalil Gibran Academy, an Islamic madrassa funded by public dollars.

At issue is activity beyond the non-lobby restrictions on non-profit groups. “This may only be the tip of the iceberg of violations of IRS regulations forbidding grassroots lobbying by Islamist 501c3s,” the report stated.

The report included a CAIR “Action Alert” document calling on organized lobbying by CAIR members. “Muslims and other people of conscience...[should] contact their respective state senators in support of the Eid School Bill,” the CAIR document stated.

A report from a watch group critical of CAIR’s actions, FaithFreedom.org, is noted in material Myrick’s office made available for public awareness on the CAIR tax exempt issue.

Faith and Freedom noted on Feb. 18 a probable tax exempt status change, restricting their activities to educational, non-lobbying functions, possibly as of Jan. 1 2008.

Other watchdog groups also observed the status change, from 501c4 to 501c3, prompting the call to have a review by the IRS as CAIR’s lobbying efforts continue.

What is CAIR?

The Council on American-Islamic Relations claims to be an advocacy group to defend Muslims from discrimination and misunderstanding of Islam as a religion.

They have dozens of offices employing hundreds of staff nationwide, with a vast, multi-million-dollar budget – acting on hundreds of matters simultaneously through regional, state and some city affiliate offices with independent command structure.

One media personality CAIR took on for his commentary against them, Michael Savage, responded with legal action against CAIR.

Savage, a successful radio personality over “the Savage Nation” radio program, attacked CAIR’s tax status as well, pointing out funding from foreign Islamic governments.

Another controversy CAIR is embroiled in centers on their inclusion as an “un-indicted co-conspirator” in the Texas federal case against the Holy Land Foundation for alleged funding of Hamas terrorists in the Middle East.

CAIR founding leaders and others who have risen in the ranks more recently have been accused of ties with Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and other terrorist-linked Islamic groups advocating violent jihad.

CAIR takes up causes for Muslims convicted of serious crimes, including felony charges funding of Islamic terrorism and other cases of terrorist activity.

An example of their advocacy for convicted Islamic terrorists sympathizers is CAIR’s participation earlier this year with efforts to help Dr. Sami Al-Arian, a Florida professor serving time in federal prison for helping fund Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists.

Al-Arian pleaded guilty to one charge in a trial process that drew an exasperated comment form federal Judge James Moody, calling Al-Arian a “master manipulator.”

CAIR visited Al-Arian and promoted his legal claims during a hunger strike. Al-Arian refused to testify in a separate trial seeking to expose terrorist funding plots.

CAIR controversies include involvement in public schools to influence textbooks in favor of a one-sided, propagandist presentation of Islam.

A recent example of their reach into public schools includes involvement with anti-Israel “teach-in” activist events at a Columbus, Ohio charter school whose attendance draws on a large Somali population.

CAIR recently renewed a project to place Islamic literature into thousands of libraries across America, promoting Islamist fundamentalist interpretations of the Qur’an.

The effort renews projects set aside after intense scrutiny in 2002 because of a ban by the Los Angeles school system in response to anti-Semitic commentaries included in the literature.

CAIR received criticism for being a radical Islamic group dedicated to hate, “seeking to propagate hatred throughout our country, under the guise of education,” CAIR critic Joe Kaufman said.

Kaufman pointed out an edited work on Qur’anic interpretation, the Amana Qur’an, was published by the International Institute for Islamic Thought, whose offices have been raided by the FBI in a terrorism financing probe.

“IIIT had funneled tens of thousands of dollars to groups and individuals associated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad,” Kauffman said.

Myrick said in recent comments that telling information has emerged from the Texas federal case against the Holy Land Foundation of which CAIR is a noted co-conspirator.

“This memo explains the ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ strategy of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States,” she said.

“They describe their work in America as a path to ‘eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within...so that is is eliminated and [the Islamic] religion is made victorious over all other religions,’” she added, quoting the memo.

Myrick calls her 10-point agenda a “Wake up America” plan to start with several doable goals and proceed from there in unraveling the insurrectionist agenda of radical Islam in America.

“In order to ensure that the ideals of our founders persist into the next generation, Americans must be willing to confront the enemy head-on – and be smart about it,” she said.
