From the London Evening Standard
Google has come under fire after bringing up an image of radical cleric Anjem Choudary as the top result under a search for ‘Muslim’.
An image of the hate preacher appears next to a Wikipedia entry giving the definition of a Muslim as a “person who follows the religion of Islam."
Choudary is widely condemned by mainstream UK Muslims and was arrested in September as part of an investigation into Islamist terrorism, but was later bailed.
It appears the mishap occurs because Google takes information from third party websites.
Twitter users were quick to notice the error and posted images of the results online.
One user wrote: “If you google Muslim shows an ISIS ideologue Anjem Choudary.”
Another said Google’s alogrithim should be changed to show up an image of Bollywood actor and Muslim Shah Rukh Khan.
