The recent upheaval in Egypt brings to the forefront the plight of Christians who have come under increased attack from Islamists since the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi.
One of the challenges Christian families are facing in Upper Egypt is the kidnapping of Christian teenage girls.
Many families relocate to Christian villages to protect their daughters from abduction and forced conversion. It is difficult for the father’s to find work since many people do not want them there.
More than 800 Christian girls have been kidnapped. Most efforts to stop the trafficking and conversions have failed.
