No Joke, April Fools’ Day is Condemned by Islamic Fatwa

Unless the whole episode is an elaborate joke, reports are true that the Pharisaical Islamists of Eqypt's dar-al-iftaa issued a fatwa, or edict, against April Fools' Day, saying that lies are forbidden in Islam, meaning among Muslims, even in jest. Egypt Independent – Egypt’s Dar al-Iftaa, the government’s principal Islamic legal institution for issuing fatwa edicts, warned Monday against April Fools’ Day.

“Do not participate in April Fools’ Day. The Muslim is not a liar, even if the lie is a joke. It is agreed that lying is banned in Islam, and it is deemed unequivocally ugly. There are many evidences for this in Islam,” Dar al-Iftaa said in a Facebook post.

One of these evidences is . . . the Messenger of Allah said, “There are three signs of the hypocrite: When he speaks, he lies, when he makes a promise, he breaks it and when he is trusted, he betrays that trust.”
