Islamist Gets Job at British Counter-Terrorism Office
Moderate Muslim advisors in the British government
are concerned about the appointment of Asim Hafeez as the head of
intervention at the Office of Security and Counter-Terrorism,
reports Jewish Community Online. One advisor described
Hafeez as a "hardcore Salafi," referring to the Islamic sect that
is strong in Saudi Arabia that promotes the establishment of Sharia
Law.
The Jewish Chronicle reported that Inayat Bunglawala, a spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain, wrote on Facebook that the report covering Hafeez's appointment "was a disgraceful piece and quite McCarthyite. Does it not trouble your conscience?"
Bunglawala also posed a question for the Jewish Chronicle: "I don't suppose you want to share with me the name of the 'Muslim adviser' who sh**ed on Asim Hafeez?"
Contact between the British government and the Muslim Council of Britain was supposed to have ended in March when the organization's leader signed a declaration in support of Hamas that also justified attacks on British vessels stopping arms shipments to the Gaza Strip.
The report also reveals that Mockbul Ali, an advisor in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who described the Muslim Brotherhood as a moderate group and requested a visa for Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, a top Brotherhood theologian who supports suicide bombings, has been promoted. Ali remains an advisor to the Foreign Secretary but is also now the "Head of Prevent, Counter Ideology" at Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
According to The Jewish Chronicle, the Department of Communities and Local Government has also chosen two new advisors from the Muslim Council of Britain, including the group's former secretary-general.
