An alleged member of Al-Qaeda has discussed “imminent” attacks on the United States, saying that the presidential elections provide a good opportunity according to a transcript on a radical Islamic web site. The terrorist also discussed attacks on oil infrastructure and the use of weapons of mass destruction.
“Some of them [Al-Qaeda members] even exist since the events of September 11 and they are from the original Americans who did not leave America; waiting for the go-ahead signal to implement,” he said in the interview with the Al-Yaqin Media Center, which was translated and published by the NEFA Foundation.
He noted that the elections provide a good opportunity for an attack.
“Now we know there is an imminent strike against Europe and America,” he said. “For example, during elections the state will be concerned with many things; such days are distinctive for Al-Qaeda to prove its challenge and show strength when the world is awaiting the outcome of its elections!”
He said that Al-Qaeda would focus on operations that strike the most fear, naming attacks with weapons of mass destruction and attacks on the energy industry as primary goals.
“In addition there are many university professors in western countries who started contacting us and providing us with important information,” he said. He also claimed that the families of killed servicemen and individuals inside the government were assisting Al-Qaeda.
