Al-Qaeda Threatens Germany Again

al_qaedaA threat against Germany, purportedly from Al-Qaeda, has been posted on a radical Islamic website, Adnkronos reported October 5. The threat comes on the heels of multiple demands by Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists that they'd carry out an attack on the country depending on the results of the September 27 elections. The party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who supports keeping German soldiers in Afghanistan, won the contest.

"To the German nation of unbelievers, we warn you for the third time, telling you of the exact date of the attack," stated the message, which was signed by "Mourabittoun," which Adnkronos says is "forward base fighter" in Arabic.

The threat states that the attack will occur on a Sunday in October and is a reaction to the election results.

"The world still remembers New York, Washington's black Tuesdays just as it recalls London's black Thursday... You, however, are more fortunate, because you can choose and have chosen blood and destruction," it said.

The threat follows other Internet postings discussing an impending attack on Germany.

The Middle East Media Research Institute translated a posting by a known poster on September 29 that claimed to contain hints about the details of the plot. Another poster indicated the attack would consist of 16 operatives. MEMRI noted that the message warranted their attention because the poster was new to the forum and his message was given visibility as a featured post by the administrators, which the organization said was unusual.

MEMRI also reported that the al-Falluja forum has also begun hosting a banner announcing the creation of a media group to celebrate the upcoming attack on Germany.

On October 3, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, which has called on German Muslims to come join their forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan, released a video on the Internet showing its German recruits. The terrorist group is also reported by The Telegraph to control a village in Waziristan that is home to terrorists that traveled from Germany.
