Judge Sends Rifqa Bary Back to Ohio

fathima-rifqa-baryFlorida Judge Daniel Dawson has ruled that the Rifqa Bary case must be settled in Ohio, requiring the 17-year old teenage girl who converted to Christianity from Islam to go back to her home state, FoxNews.com reports. Bary originally fled her parents and went to Florida after they learned of her conversion and she claims that her father had threatened to kill her and previously abused her.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement concluded that they did not believe Bary's family posed any threat to her. However, her attorney, John Stemberger, has published a 35-page court filing arguing that her family attends a mosque with radical Islamic ties.

The filing says that the Noor Islamic Cultural Center, which Bary's family attends, "has been identified as one of the primary sources of Islamic extremism in Central Ohio."

Stemberger also says that the imam of the mosque is part of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the previous mosque he led contained an Al-Qaeda cell. He also points to the presence of Dr. Salah Sultan at the mosque, who has been seen on Egyptian television predicting the destruction of the U.S. and making anti-Semitic comments.

Pastor Blake Lorenz, whose family housed Bary when she fled, said he is still hopeful.

"We expected Ohio would get jurisdiction... that's just the legal way it is," he told MyFoxOrlando.com. He noted that Bary's parents are required to proof that she is legally in the country.

Bary's father, Mohammed, denies the charges against him and says he just wants to be re-united with her regardless of what religion she has chosen. He has described the Christian family that took in Bary in Florida as a "cult" that has "brainwashed" his daughter.

"I love my daughter and I want her to come back to the family," he told FoxNews.com.
