It’s hard to imagine anything more innocent than an office set up to support pregnant women with ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, classes, diapers and clothing.
Yet on June 25, the day after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a Longmont, Colo. office doing those things was defaced with paint and set afire in the middle of the night, reported KDVR.
The office could be seen as offering an alternative to killing one’s unborn child.
Local emergency crews were called to Life Choices Pregnancy Center at 3:17 a.m. after reports of a fire at the location. When they arrived they also discovered graffiti painted across the front of the offices. When first responders arrived on the scene, located at 20 Mountain View Ave. in Longmont, they discovered vandalism painted across the front of the businesses.
“Bans off our bodies” read one message, while another said, “if abortions aren’t safe neither are you”
“That is such a weird place to target, I guess,” said Becky Young, a former patient and an employee of Life Choices. ” … Just because they don’t offer abortions doesn’t mean they aren’t helping women find the right choice for them.”
Officials of Life Choices had not had the ability to get into their center and assess the damage. In a statement, they said: “We are devastated and stunned by this frightening act of vandalism. Life Choices has served Longmont and the surrounding communities for over 37 years providing hope, help and support for women and men who walk through our door.”
Neighbors of the facility are being asked to submit surveillance footage and an investigation is ongoing.
