Online Extremists Put Bounty on American Mega-Church Pastor
A $50,000 bounty has been put on Pastor Rod Parsley by radical Muslims operating on the Internet, the Northeast Intelligence Network reported on September 2. Parsley is the host of a religious TV show and is the senior pastor of the World Harvest Church in Columbus, Ohio.
[Parsley] incited Christians in the United States to prepare to fight a war to eliminate the new crusade against Islam and Muslims,” the web site posting said.
“And praise to God we have…the allocation of $50 thousand dollars to those who bring this dog’s head, which hurt Allah and His Messenger,” it said.
The threat was made in response to Parsley’s comments about Islam, such as describing Islam as a “mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil” that uses violence to spread around the world. These comments also caused Republican presidential candidate John McCain to reject Parsley’s endorsement.
