The Daily Mail – Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar is under fire from conservatives after a letter she wrote urging a judge to show compassion when sentencing nine men accused of attempting to joining ISIS reemerged on social media.
Minnesota-born Guled Omar, 22, and eight other men faced decades behind bars in 2016 after they were found guilty of conspiring to travel to Syria and fight for the Islamic State during the peak of the terror group’s reign in the Middle-East.
. . . Omar – who at the time was a state representative for Minnesota – wrote a letter to US District Judge Michael Davis. “The best deterrent to fanaticism is a system of compassion,” she wrote.
