Doctors have a special relationship with other humans, which is why the Hippocratic Oath exists. “First do no harm,” they must swear.
So when a young boy shows a preference for “female” activities, clothes and behavior, and his parents think he should have been born female, should a doctor advise that it’s a phase and should be waited out, or should the doctor get busy with drugs and scalpel and try to “turn” that boy into a girl, based on the child’s undeveloped, inexperienced and simplistic desires?
This has now become a battle in the United States, incredibly, with Texas governor Greg Abbott recently siding with restraint or, as the Hippocratic Oath states it, “do no harm.” The governor announced on March 1 that Texas child welfare agency officials have started investigating parents of these “transgender” children on possible child abuse charges, DailyMail.com reported.
Joe Biden’s leftist and ill-founded White House is of course on the opposite side, almost eager to see children confused about gender roles get irreversibly treated either with drugs or the knife. It’s all part of pandering to a noisy minority of leftists curiously preoccupied with the premature sexualization of young children.
The administration in fact warned on March 2 that it will take “immediate action if needed” to protect children involved in transgender surgery procedures. Both the White House and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra have condemned Abbott’s direction, The Daily Wire reported.
A statement from Biden characterized simply leaving children’s bodies intact as “government overreach,” and allowing mutilation of children as the more restrained response:
“This is government overreach at its worst,” said Biden’s statement. “Like so many anti-transgender attacks proliferating in states across the country, the Governor’s actions callously threaten to harm children and their families just to score political points. These actions are terrifying many families in Texas and beyond,” he added. “And they must stop.”
However, some people find irreparably altering children’s bodies on dubious reasoning to be “terrifying.”
Becerra promised that HHS is “committed to protecting young Americans who are targeted because of their sexual orientation or gender identity” and said that he has directed HHS to “evaluate the tools at our disposal to protect trans and gender diverse youth in Texas.”
Ironically, two of the first people to be investigated under Abbott’s directive are parents of a “transgender” teenager. On March 2 District Judge Amy Clark Meachum put her own politics on display, issuing a temporary halt on the investigation and claiming the parents “face the imminent and ongoing deprivation of their constitutional rights, the potential loss of necessary medical care, and the stigma attached to being the subject of an unfounded child abuse investigation,” reported DailyMail.com.
