The Muslim Community Patrol cars seen driving around lower NYC were approved by a radical Islamic cleric who believes the United States should adopt Sharia law.

Siraj Wahhaj, who has been previously identified as “unindicted co-conspirator” by US Attorney Mary Jo White for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, approved the purchase and deployment of the Muslim Community Patrol cars that have been spotted in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
The presence of the MCP cars has alarmed many throughout the nation who fear the security patrol cars could be used to enforce Sharia law.
Those concerns are likely to be heightened with revelations of Siraj Wahhaj’s involvement. The 68-year-old Islamic cleric has made a number of statements in the past supporting Islamic laws over democracy.
“Islam is better than democracy, he has said. “Allah will cause his deen, Islam to prevail over every kind of system, and you know what? It will happen.” (The word deen means the Islamic way of life)
Wahhaj supports stoning for adultery and cutting off hands for thievery.
Wahhaj has also stated, “”If Allah says 100 strikes, 100 strikes it is. If Allah says cut off their hand, you cut off their hand. If Allah says stone them to death, through the Prophet Muhammad, then you stone them to death, because it’s the obedience of Allah and his messenger—nothing personal.”
Wahhaj is the “ruler” of an Islamic organization called Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA), which approved the request among 10 member mosques to purchase and deploy the MCP cars.
“A meeting was held about 4 months ago with Imams from 10 different mosques,” said Abdul, who asked that his last name be kept confidential. “They put their money together and with the help of some additional funding from Majlis ash-Shura, they purchased the cars.”
Majlis ash-Shura is the governing body that oversees the MANA, which Siraj Wahhaj is listed as the “Amir”, meaning ruler.
“Here’s the thing,” Abdul said. “Wahhaj had to approve the MCP cars before they were deployed and Wahhaj wants Sharia law in America. That’s basically all you need to know.”
“My opinion is they are going to start implementing the Sharia, but it’s going to start slowly,” Abdul said. “I don’t think it’s going to be tomorrow or the day after, but by next year they will be starting the Sharia and implementing it against people.”
Siraj Wahhaj has been known to have Muslim Patrol units operating on the streets of Brooklyn for the past couple of decades.
“Back in 1988, Wahhaj started with these Muslim Patrol units,” Abdul said. “They didn’t have cars back then, but their patrol officers went to every store in a 14 block area — from Fulton St. and Bedford Ave. to Madison St. — to force them to stop selling alcohol and pork.”
“To this day, from Fulton St to Franklin Ave there is not a single non-Muslim store on either side of the street. The candy stores are gone. And there’s nowhere to buy beer because they have all been forced to stop selling since 1988,” Abdul said.
Noor Rabah, Vice President of the MCP cars, said the goal of the group is to eventually have as many as 30 patrol officers and an additional 30 volunteers.
He told Snopes they will serve as the “eyes and ears” for the police. “We’re not here to arrest people,” he said.
Brooklyn Borough President Erik Adams said he hopes to get public funding for the MCP cars, a promise he made at a January 2, 2019 event that honored the MCP cars.
Local Muslims that Christian Action Network spoke to had mixed opinions about the MCP cars.
“I’m in favor of them,” said Musa. “They’ll be able to enforce some Sharia law, but they won’t be able to enforce all of it, because this is the United States. But it’s a good thing.”
Muhamed said, “I’m very happy about them. I’ll even donate money for them. It will be good if they enforce Sharia law. There are too many brothers and sisters doing things they know better than to be doing, yet they still do it.”
Muhamed pointed to the people selling and using drugs in the Muslim community in the Bay Ridge and Staten Island area.
His opinion was shared by Shuaib who said, “I feel that Muslims should have their own patrol and I hope they can do more, like arrest people on felony charges.”
Another Muslim said he didn’t think the MCP would last every long.
“People are afraid of the cars,” Musa said. “They don’t have an understanding of the MCP and how it will help people. I don’t think they’ll be around very long.”
Other area Muslims questioned why there was any controversy at all.
“They are not the police and they don’t have any guns, so who is going to listen to what they have to say?” Sullain asked. “But they need to stay in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn because if they come up to this area of Bed-Stuy they are going to get hurt.”
Bed-Stuy is short for Bedford-Stuyvesant, a neighborhood in the north-central portion of Brooklyn. The area has been known to have a high rate of drug-related crimes.
Abdul explained why the area could “break out into all-out war” if MCP cars try to patrol the upper portion of Bed-Stuy.
“If the MCP tries to stop someone from using or selling illegal drugs in that area of Bed-Stuy, that person is probably going to get shot. And if that happens, sh*t is going to break out.”
“Muslim blood is going to stick with Muslim blood and they are going to retaliate,” Abdul said. “People are going to get shot and people are going to get killed. They will shoot at those MCP cars.”
“The Khalifa mosque will have to side with the MCP if they go to war with non-Muslim drug dealers,” he sad.
Abdul suspects that the real purpose of the MCP cars in the Bay Ridge and Staten Island areas is to keep outside drug dealers from encroaching into their own distribution turf.
In Part Five of this series, we’ll take a closer look at the man whose approval was needed to get the MCP cars on the streets, Siraj Wahhaj.
