President Trump butchered yet two more well-fed sacred cows of Washington on Thursday, directing federal agencies not to renew their subscriptions to the print versions of both the New York Times and the Washington Post, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The White House has also cancelled its subscriptions to the papers. That’s right, reporters and editorialists in both newsrooms can no longer envision their bylines and masterpieces hitting the breakfast table of the People’s House, or in the offices of Washington bureaucrats.
Trump had previously mentioned the possibility of cancelling the White House’s subscriptions to the two newspapers in an interview with Fox News, and now his administration is reportedly advising federal agencies to do the same.
The White House is characterizing the move as a worthwhile cost-saving measure.
“Not renewing subscriptions across all federal agencies will be a significant cost saving – hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars will be saved, White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said in an email Thursday, the Journal reported.
The White House canceled its print subscription this week, according to a Bloomberg reporter.
Trump told Fox News’s Sean Hannity in an interview that aired on Monday: “We don’t even want [the New York Times] in the White House any more. We’re going to probably terminate that and the Washington Post. They’re fake.”
Trump has repeatedly attacked the media, labelled reporting as fake news, and said the blatantly leftist/Democrat New York Times and Washington Post “treat me terribly.”
