INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
The California Assembly
rejected a ban on teachers in public schools who advocate the
overthrow of the U.S. government or are part of terrorist networks
on August 4, according to the Capitol Resource Institute. The ban
was rejected in a party-line vote with the Democratic Party holding
the majority of the seats in the assembly.
The proposed SB 1322 bill allowed Communists to teach in public
schools. Republican Assemblymen Martin Garrick and Chuck DeVore
offered two amendments to the bill requiring that any person or
organization using public schools must sign a statement confirming
they do not advocate overthrowing the government and are not part of
terrorist networks. The bill also called for the firing of anyone
employed by a California public school that is a terrorist.
The non-profit Capitol Resource Institute, which says its goal is to
support “family-friendly” policies in California, is taking aim at
the Democratic Party in California for the defeat of the bill.
Democrats are quick to side with the latest political cause
championing the rights of the oppressed. With their votes today,
Democrats have missed their opportunity to make a statement
denouncing oppressive Communist governments responsible for the
misery and suffering of so many worldwide,” said the organization’s
legislative liaison, Meredith Turney, in a statement on their web
site, www.capitalresource.org.
