A spokeswoman for a birth-coaching group has been driven from her job by transgender activists after she asserted that only women can have babies. Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert, 45, who is an actual female, says she was “ostracized” for the social media post.
McCarthy-Calvert, a professional doula or trained non-medical helper for moms-to-be, posted a photo on social media with the message: “I am not a ‘cervix owner’ I am not a ‘menstruator’ I am not a ‘feeling’. I am not defined by wearing a dress and lipstick. I am a woman: an adult human female.
“Women birth all the people, make up half the population, but less than a third of the seats in the House of Commons are occupied by us.”
The post was in response to another post by Cancer Research UK, which dropped the word “women” from its pap smear test campaign, instead saying screening was “relevant for everyone aged 25-64 with a cervix.”
The seemingly obvious and inarguable post sparked fury among transgender activists.
One user said she was using “absolutely disgusting language”, stating: “You seem to be forgetting that not only women birth children.”
Other activists filed a complaint with the nonprofit group Doula UK, claiming her post contained “trans exclusionary comments” including the description of a woman as an “adult human female.” They said she had broken the organization’s policy that members “shouldn’t post anything that our colleagues, clients and affiliates would find offensive”.
As a result, Doula UK sacked McCarthy-Calvert as a spokeswoman and launched a four-month investigation, which concluded that the post violated its guidelines.
They did not expel her but threatened to suspend her unless she deleted the post.
McCarthy-Calvert has since resigned from the organization, but told MailOnline that she was “very disappointed” with its response. She added: “The leadership are paralysed by not wanting to upset transgender rights activists.
