CAN Demands “Access Islam” Funds be Returned to Federal Government

Students are provided videos and lesson plans that indoctrinate them into Islam through the "Access Islam" program.

The Christian Action Network (CAN) has sent a letter to Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, demanding that grant money be returned to the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) for the funding of “Access Islam.”

“Access Islam” is an Islamic indoctrination program that is being promoted to the public schools, primarily through the efforts of the PBS Learning Media.

An undisclosed amount of money was awarded to the Educational Broadcasting Corporation to create the program by the DOE.

“This program only received federal money because the Educational Broadcasting Corporation deceived the DOE into thinking the funds would be used ‘improve and strengthen instruction in modern foreign languages,” Martin Mawyer, president of Christian Action Network, said.

“Instead, the funds were deceptively used to create the most blatant Islamic indoctrination program ever developed for grades 5-12.”

CAN sent the letter to Secretary DeVos following its victory in getting the education department to remove its official seal of approval from the program.

“We applaud the Department of Education for removing its seal.  But that is not enough,” Mawyer said.  “Now they need to force the Educational Broadcasting Corporation to return all federal funds used to create this unconstitutional program.

Below is a copy of the letter Mr. Mawyer sent to Secretary Betsy Devos:

Dear Honorable DeVos,

We want to thank the Department of Education for having its official “seal of approval” removed from the “Access Islam” program made available through the PBS Learning Media website.

As you are well aware, the Educational Broadcasting Corporation created “Access Islam” by misusing federal dollars it received from the Department of Education.

Though the money was designated to “to improve and strengthen instruction in modern foreign languages, area studies and other international fields,” the Educational Broadcasting Corporation used the money instead to create an Islamic indoctrination program that teaches students:

  • How to become a Muslim. • How to pray as a Muslim. • How to perform Islamic “daily worship. • How to perform the “core duties” of being a Muslim. • And other Islamic indoctrination instructions.

This was an illegal use of federal tax dollars! The Department of Education is forbidden by law to fund a national curriculum program, (20 USC § 7907), which this certainly is.

This unlawful diversion of funds must be prosecuted.

The DOE must demand the Educational Broadcasting System return ALL FEDERAL FUNDS used to create this unconstitutional and illegal Islamic indoctrination program written for public school students, grades 5-12.

Should the U.S. Department of Education refuse to pursue efforts to have the funds returned, Christian Action Network will consider filing a Qui Tam (Whistle Blower Lawsuit) against the U.S. Department of Education.

Thank you again for removing the DOE official “seal of approval” from the “Access Islam” program. But please demand that our stolen tax dollars be returned.

Let’s finish the job.

Our supporters do no want their tax dollars indoctrinating, converting or evangelizing school children into Islam.

Sincerely,

Martin Mawyer

President, Christian Action Network
