The Daily Mail – A Catholic school in Indianapolis fired a gay teacher to protect its Catholic identity after it was pressured to do so by the archdiocese. Cathedral High School announced in a letter to the community Sunday that it was an agonizing decision to separate from the teacher who is in a same-sex marriage.
The school will avoid the punishment that nearby Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School received last week when cut off by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis for refusing to fire a gay and married employee.
Cathedral said it was engaged in almost two years of earnest discussion and extensive dialogue with the archdiocese over loss of Catholic services and nonprofit status.
