Liberals have turned their obsession with race and racism into a major cash cow, with one prominent consulting firm that seeks to re-educate Americans about race being funded entirely by taxpayer dollars to the tune of about $2 million in the last two years, tax filings reveal.
The Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium (MAEC), a self-anointed “social justice” nonprofit group that “audits” companies and schools for racism, often in partnership with far-left groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center, recently snagged a lucrative contract with Maryland’s largest school district and re-educates educators across more than a dozen states. The story is being reported by the Washington Free Beacon.
MAEC’s influence definitely comes at taxpayer expense. According to its most recent tax returns, the group sucked up $2 million purely from government grants between mid-2018 and mid-2019, a phenomenon made possible thanks to a partnership with the Department of Education.
MAEC has not reported even one private donation in four years.
Similar companies have profited hugely from academia’s stringent focus on race and re-educating “racist” everyday Americans. The MAEC landed a $454,680 contract with the Montgomery County Public School district to do an “anti-racist audit” of the school’s policies; in nearby Loudoun County, Va., a similar firm raked in $422,500 in two years.
Prominent “diversity consultants,” such as White Fragility author Robin DiAngelo, make nearly $13,000 for a speaking gig on a university campus.
The MAEC has several left-leaning education partners, including the fabulously wealthy Southern Poverty Law Center’s “Teaching Tolerance” arm, which pushes education about white guilt for slavery beginning in kindergarten.
