Elections Expert Warns of ‘Horrific’ Blowback if Systems Not Reformed

Political figure and commentator Kenneth Blackwell, also an elections systems expert, warns that election foibles in Florida and Georgia are what we can expect to see again in 2020 if measures are not taken.

Blackwell spoke and fielded questions for a gathering of S.T.A.N.D. America National Awakening Coalition by phone last Tuesday.

He was in Florida with numerous conservative leaders responding to recount conflicts as numbers and processes were still being debated.

According to Blackwell, the chaos was cover, and “the theft of an election should not be allowed to hide behind the veil of chronic incompetence.”

Specifically observed by numerous Democrat and Republican election officials in Florida was specific skirting of rules and tabulation-reporting laws by Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes.

Potentially tens-of-thousands of ballots were involved, including thousands noted as illegal, by ineligible voters, that Snipes mixed into the collection of all the ballots.

Blackwell said Snipes has long been closely observed by courts, balloting officials and voter rights organizations, and has a known record of irregularities and fraud.

The consequences to the nation are potentially horrific, according to Blackwell.

You can’t have free and fair elections if you do not have adherence to the rule of law,” Blackwell said. “What we have here is wanton disregard for guidelines and deadlines.”

To keep from irregularities, guidelines and deadlines are set for reporting election results, along with reports on not-yet tabulated numbers, at intervals after the closing of the polls.

Snipes disregarded those guidelines and deadlines speciously, and soon piled up tens of thousands of “found” ballots, including provisional ballots of questionable legality.

Blackwell said questions mounted as Snipes hid the process from both parties after Election Day Nov. 6. So once again, “how were those votes found?”

we must have penalties on folks who violate transparency standards

There seems to be much thought on her part as to a strategy, “that many of these votes were fraudulently cast,” Blackwell added.

Other impacts include an electorate on a national scale having to worry about systemic corruption, so there remains much confusion, doubt, controversy and distrust.

These problems don’t seem to be targeted for a true and final solution, according to Blackwell. Snipes may be “stepping down” but she’s been out, and then again re-elected as elections supervisor for Broward County before.

A Democrat majority in Broward County, Florida, may like their votes to be augmented by Snipes’ fraudulent efforts of added ballots.

And many state officials, including leading Republicans, indicate there is no over-arching legal authority for this situation.

If you reward incompetence and misbehavior, what you are going to get is more incompetence and misbehavior,” Blackwell said.

Blackwell had a few ideas for the future, now that we’re looking forward to 2020, on how to make sure that fraud or meddling do not compromise America’s Presidential elections.

* Clean up the voter rolls.

* Clarify transparency standards

* Adhere to deadlines.

* Institute clear penalties for infractions.

We must have penalties on folks who violate transparency standards, who fail to clean up their voter rolls and who don’t adhere to deadlines,” Blackwell said.

Blackwell is Senior Fellow for Human Rights and Constitutional Governance at the Family Research Council.

He serves on the board of directors of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems.

Ken is married to Rosa, and they have three grown children.
