Gay NY lawmakers: Exclude Samaritan’s Purse for not being inclusive enough

The hospital has treated 119 patients so far. The facility, run by Christian humanitarian group Samaritan’s Purse, has just over 70 medics and can take 10 intensive care patients

How much do homosexuals hate having their lifestyle disapproved of? Enough to bite a humanitarian hand that helped New York City during the coronavirus outbreak.

Several gay lawmakers have taken it upon themselves to tell doctors and nurses who work with Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief agency run by evangelist Franklin Graham, that they are no longer welcome in the city. The organization set up a mobile relief hospital of sorts in Central Park to help treat virus patients.

“It is time for Samaritan’s Purse to leave NYC,” said New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. “This group, led by the notoriously bigoted, hate-spewing Franklin Graham, came at a time when our city couldn’t in good conscience turn away any offer of help. That time has passed.”

Incredibly, Johnson said the ministry’s continued presence in New York City “is an affront to our values of inclusion.” Hence his effort to kick them out and exclude them.

The mobile hospital was to have closed on May 4 after treating 315 patients infected with the coronavirus.

NBC News reporter Melissa Russo reported “a decision was made to sever ties after controversy over the group’s religious views on the LGBTQ community caused concerns in NY.”

NBC News also reports that some of the Samaritan’s Purse medical staff will be dispatched to other hospitals in the city. That revelation set off the homosexual lawmakers.

“Franklin Graham should pack up his medical tents and leave New York City for good,” State Sen. Brad Hoylman said.

“It was bad enough that Donald Trump’s failure to prepare the nation for this pandemic forced New York to accept charity from a bigot like Franklin Graham,” he said in a statement. “Inviting Graham to stay on longer is an insult to LGBTQ New Yorkers and sends the dangerous message that homophobia and transphobia are acceptable.”
