After posting congratulations on Twitter to Amy Coney Barrett for being only the fifth woman appointed to the Supreme Court, the Girl Scouts of America were suspiciously quick to delete the tweet, only hours later, reports DailyMail.com.
Their reasoning: The tweet was misinterpreted by liberals on Twitter. Therefore, it had to go.
Why not just keep it up, with a rejoinder?
The Girl Scouts elected to retract the congratulations altogether, which of course created an instant narrative that the masses on Twitter had shouted down the United States’ newest female high court justice.
The image of Barrett and the four other female Supreme Court Justices posted early on the afternoon of Oct. 28, Barrett having been sworn in the night of Oct. 26. The Scouts’ message read: “Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the 5th woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789.” The image pictured the four other female Justices: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Sandra Day O’Connor.
It drew immediate criticism on social media of both the Scouts and Barrett, whom many see as a grave threat to the liberal agenda.
After obediently and hastily deleting the Tweet, the Girl Scouts clarified that the post was not a political statement.
So why take it down?
“It was quickly viewed as a political and partisan statement which was not our intent and we have removed the post. Girl Scouts of the USA is a nonpolitical, nonpartisan organization. We are neither red nor blue, but Girl Scout GREEN. We are here to lift up girls and women.”
So again, why take it down?
Perhaps because the whole incident reflected the statement that the Girl Scouts REALLY wanted to make. z+zx
