Liberal ice cream millionaires Ben and Jerry call to ‘defund the police’

For those who cannot separate extreme liberal politics even from their dessert, famously left-wing ice-cream magnates Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, AKA Ben and Jerry, have declared their support for getting rid of the police, reports the Washington Times.

The wealthy white liberal capitalists tweeted support for the “defund the police” movement to mark Juneteenth, the day commemorating the end of U.S. slavery.

“Defund the police, defend Black communities!” the Vermont-based ice cream sociologists said in the June tweet, unconcerned that lack of policing could plunge “black communities” into hideous violence as drug lords and crime rings battle to take control in the vacuum.

Decrying “the racist and ineffective model of American policing,” the tweet linked to a press release calling for U.S. policing to be reformed so that “Black Americans and people of color can finally experience and celebrate true freedom.”

“‘Defund the police’ means that we stop spending our tax dollars on so many of the discredited, dangerous, and racist parts of policing and instead invest that money in community-driven solutions that foster real health, peacekeeping, and safety.”

The press release went on to assert that trained “caring professionals” and “violence interrupters” would be able to handle all policing situations.

“ … American policing is fundamentally flawed — Band-Aids won’t fix it. So it’s time to do something fundamentally different.”

Ben & Jerry’s, which first declared its support for the Black Lives Matter movement in 2016 amid the national anthem protests led by then-NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, posted a statement earlier this month condemning systemic racism in the wake of Floyd’s death.
