Teaching LGBTQ history in schools is ‘an affront to almighty God,’ says Jersey Shore mayor

Barnegat, N.J., Mayor Alfonso Cirulli says teaching LGBTQ history in schools is "absurdity."

Daily News. The mayor of a small town on the Jersey Shore is urging residents to stand firm and fight against a law that will require public schools in the state to add LGBTQ history to their curriculum.

Barnegat Mayor Alfonso Cirulli, a Republican, launched a fierce campaign against the legislation during a meeting of the Township Committee, on Tuesday, the Asbury Park Press reported.

“Sometimes laws are introduced with the best intentions but sometimes they go overboard…from my observation, we’ve crossed over the line into absurdity,” Cirulli began, according to Jersey Shore On Line.

Cirulli was referring to a law, enacted by the Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy in January, that requires boards of education in the state to include accurate portrayal of LGBTQ people and their contributions.
