Sometimes real life is so ridiculous that Saturday Night Live couldn’t make it up.
A three-year-old soccer player in Winter Park, Florida, recently found himself at the center of a controversy that actually brought police officers to a children’s soccer game.
What was the terrible offense?
According to his parents, the little boy was simply too good at soccer.
The youngster, named Nevada, was reportedly scoring goals and dominating play when complaints from other parents led to a confrontation with youth league officials.
During the dispute, a league director called 911 to complain about the boy’s mother, and demanded police remove her from the property.
There was just one tiny problem. She and her family were already leaving.
So, I imagined what the 911 conversation might have sounded like if Saturday Night Live writers got their hands on it.
And here it is.
Saturday Night Live Presents: Soccer Emergency!
Dispatcher: “911, what’s your emergency?”
League Director: “I need officers immediately! We have an unruly mother at a children’s soccer game!”
Dispatcher: “Is she threatening anyone?”
Director: “She’s threatening to leave!”
Dispatcher: “Excuse me?”
Director: “She’s leaving the park! I need officers here before she gets away!”
Dispatcher: “Gets away from what?”
Director: “From being removed!”
Dispatcher: “Sir, you want the police to remove somebody who’s already leaving?”
Director: “YES! AND YOU’RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!”
Dispatcher: “Sir, have you considered just letting her leave?”
Long silence.
Director: “I want to speak to your supervisor.”
And somewhere in the background, a three-year-old kicks another goal.
Director: “HE’S DOING IT AGAIN! SEND BACKUP!”
Sometimes reality does the comedy writers’ work for them.
And somewhere in Florida, I suspect there’s a police officer who would dearly love to know why anyone thought this situation required a 911 call.

Editor’s note: The soccer incident and police response were real. The dialogue in the comedy sketch is entirely fictional and intended as satire.
