A teen-ager in Australia has been removed from her parents after a judge ruled that their refusal to support her “transition” to male is “abusive”.

Notably, news media with no credentials or expertise in psychology have already decided the case, referring to the female teen using the pronouns “he,” “him” and “his.”

The parents have managed to stave off hormone replacement therapy, however, which is invasive and causes physiological changes, until they can get a second medical opinion.

The ruling to take the 15-year-old into care is thought to be the first of its kind.

Australian authorities found out about the case a year ago after the teen wrote about suicidal thoughts online. In October, a Children’s Court magistrate removed the teen from her parents under a protection order, citing the risk of self-harm. According to The Mirror, the parents say they are grieving the loss of their child and that authorities are bullying them.

“They want us to consent to testosterone treatment,” the girl’s father said.

The parents said they want to seek independent psychological help and a “non-invasive” treatment for the causes of their child’s depression.

The parents have appealed the judge’s ruling, and authorities have agreed to a second medical opinion before the teen can receive hormone replacement therapy.
