Gay love scenes in Rocketman (left) and Booksmart (right) will be restored to Delta inflight movies.

After outcry on social media, Delta Airlines will be leaving homosexual love scenes in its in-flight movies. The scenes were previously missing in edited versions of the films that the airline showed passengers, presumably so that no one would look up and have to see something weird and distasteful while sitting in a seat they had paid for.

The Atlanta-based airline said it will now show complete versions of two movies, Booksmart and Rocketman, that had previously been shown edited to not include same-sex love scenes.

In a statement Delta said, “Studios often provide videos in two forms: a theatrical, original version and an edited version. We selected the edited version and now realize content well within our guidelines was unnecessarily excluded from both films.”

They also stated they will make sure they never show version with edited out LGBTQ love scenes again.

The airline was recently called out on social media for censoring LGBTQ content from in-flight movies.

One of the films that they censored is Rocketman, a biopic about Elton John. Passengers this week noticed that a kiss between two men was cut in the in-flight entertainment.

Delta also cut several elements from the teen comedy Booksmart, including a lesbian sex scene that director Olivia Wilde insisted was integral to the plot. The airline also censored words like “lesbian” while leaving in four-letter expletives.
