Buck and John Paul Bones, two rescue Pomeranians had only met twice before the two got married in a gay wedding at Loft on Lake on Sunday as part of a fundraiser for The Hot Mess Express and Alive Rescue.
The dogs first met in February at a fund raiser event. Stephanie Thomas, John Paul’s mom, laughed that “They had an arranged marriage. They didn’t talk much, but they got together again in August to do engagement photos in Humboldt Park. They were still shy.”
Alive Rescue primarily rescues shelter animals with high euthanasia rates. John Paul was saved after he was hit by a car and surrendered for euthanasia to animal control. The 13-year-old Pomeranian mix was taken in for emergency surgery by Alive Rescue, fostered shortly after that, and then adopted by Thomas and her husband.
Chicago Drag Queen, Heidi Salami, who officiated the formal ceremony, also invited other drag queens to become a part of the bridal party.
The celebration involved an open bar, live band, and floral accents, with custom made suits for the grooms. The event was attended by over a 100 people and 30 dogs.
