A Florida teacher who turned her job into inciting students to protest for leftist causes has been suspended, according to a social media post from a group she created called The Evac Movement.

Amy Donofrio, a teacher at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, was told to remove a “Black Lives Matter” flag from her classroom on March 23. Donofrio told News4Jax she would not comply, but according to her the sign was taken down by administrators that evening.

The teacher said she was also approached in November about the sign, but said the issue was dropped after she claimed that the flag did not violate any policies. A request for more information from the school district on March 24 was not immediately returned, and the district has not confirmed a change in Donofrio’s employment status.

Students at the school told News4Jax they had planned to stage a “peaceful assembly” on March 24 in reaction to a school administrator’s removal of the flag. A senior at the school said staff blocked the demonstration.

“Security stood outside, like at every block way,” the senior said. “During the time that we were supposed to walk out, they stood and blocked everything.”

Duval County Public Schools spokesperson Tracy Pierce told News4Jax there’s a difference between the student-led demonstrations that occurred in February and what was planned for this week.

“Students aren’t allowed to organize an assembly without the involvement of the school’s administration,” Pierce said. “You can’t have an unplanned, impromptu demonstration.”

The 12th-grader told News4Jax that some students created and posted makeshift “BLM” signs on the walls of the school, but that the signs were removed.

The teacher who displayed the Black Lives Matter flag outside her classroom, Amy Donofrio, told News4Jax in an interview on March 23 that she was told by Lee High School principal Timothy Feagins that she must remove the flag by the end of the day or that school staff would remove it.
