In the effort to initiate new, young members into the homosexual lifestyle, what better spokesman than one of their favorite cartoon characters?
SpongeBob Squarepants appears to have taken on that role, though he of course is merely a lifeless piece of art, with real humans at Nickelodeon pulling the strings.
The children’s cartoon and entertainment network appears to have hinted that SpongeBob is homosexual, reports MailOnline, by showing off Bikini Bottom’s most famous resident frolicking for Pride Month.
The network launched the campaign on June 13 in a tweet celebrating Pride Month, making sure not to specifically state SpongeBob’s sexual preference.
Nickelodeon’s tweet read: “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.” The tweet featured three characters: SpongeBob, Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger, and Korra from the Legend of Korra.
The characters are depicted in rainbow-pattern clothing or a pictured against a rainbow-colored background, since homosexuals adopted that symbol of God’s renewal of the world after the Biblical great flood.
Interestingly, Nickelodeon turned off comments and replies to its gay tweet, but fans of the show did not appear surprised by the announcement.
“Spongebob gay? I mean he literally had a baby with Patrick,” wrote one nonplussed Twitter user, apparently thinking that gay couples can create children.
SpongeBob’s sexuality has been a topic of discussion for a number of years. The character was created by Stephen Hillenburg and the series began in 1999. Hillenburg had previously stated that the beloved sponge was “asexual.”
