The Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell has vowed in a new video campaign ad on social media that should the impeachment inquiry reach the Senate, he would put an end to it.
The Facebook ad from McConnell goes on to say that it is vital that he maintains leadership of the Senate in order for the impeachment proceedings to cease.
McConnell said in the ad: “Nancy Pelosi is in the clutches of a left-wing mob. They’ve finally convinced her to impeach the President. All of you know your Constitution. The way that impeachment stops is a Senate majority, with me as majority leader.”
McConnell’s campaign manager Kevin Golden said that the senator’s supporters in Kentucky are even more enthusiastic now after this pledge. He issued a statement that said: “Few issues energize conservative voters like liberal overreach and the Democrats’ latest outrageous attempt to impeach President Trump has activated our base to new heights.”
However, McConnell also recently admitted that if the House approved the charges against the President, he would have no choice but to consider the articles of impeachment. He told CNBC: “It’s a Senate rule related to impeachment, it would take 67 votes to change, so I would have no choice but to take it up.
