Leftist ideology continues to drive new wedges into American society, with a New York City gay pride group banishing the New York Police Department from its celebrations.
That means all police officers – even the homosexual ones – are barred and are even unwelcome in terms of providing security, according to Buzzfeed News.
New York City Pride is responding to an outpouring of leftist and Democratic hatred against police organizations, and might fear losing its extreme-left credentials if it does not condemn the men and women of law enforcement. The ban is on law enforcement and corrections officers until at least 2025.
“NYC Pride seeks to create safer spaces for the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities at a time when violence against marginalized groups, specifically BIPOC and trans communities, has continued to escalate,” said event organizers in a statement on May 15. “NYC Pride is unwilling to contribute in any way to creating an atmosphere of fear or harm for members of the community. The steps being taken by the organization challenge law enforcement to acknowledge their harm and to correct course moving forward, in hopes of making an impactful change.”
What such a course correction would look like is unclear.
Heritage of Pride, organizers of NYC Pride events, also said that it would take a new look at the suitability of the NYPD as first responders and security for the event, and that an increased budget for security would allow it to transfer those duties to private security, community responders, and safety volunteers who are presumably not violent, homophobic racists.
“NYPD will provide first response and security only when absolutely necessary as mandated by city officials,” the statement said.
The Gay Officers Action League (GOAL), which advocates for LGBTQ law enforcement officers in New York, described the move as “shameful.” The group sued the NYPD in 1996 for prohibiting gay and lesbian officers from using a police van and the department marching band at a Pride event. Since then the group’s members have participated, with departmental support.
