NYPD cops may go on strike on July 4 so the city can have its 'independence' from them as tension continues to build between law enforcement and protesters in the Big Apple. NYPD officers are pictured forming a wall against protesters this month

New York City might be about to get a taste of what big-city life without the police is really like.

Documents circulating among New York Police Department officers are encouraging a sick-out on July 4reports the New York Post. One calls for the strike to begin at 3 p.m.

The walkout is portrayed as retribution for police “reform” and an anti-law-enforcement climate that has been whipped up by a Democrat-supporting media and Democratic politicians. The cause is supposedly outrage over high-profile deaths of unarmed black men in police custody across the country, but the media-fueled wave has gathered steam as the party’s presidential hopes have devolved onto the shaky shoulders of former vice president Joe Biden.

“NYPD cops will strike on July 4th to let the city have their independence without cops,” reads a text message being passed around among cops, according to sources.

“Cops that say we can’t strike because of the Taylor Law,” the message reads, referencing a law that makes public worker stoppages punishable with fines and jail time. “The people and this city doesn’t [sic] honor us why honor them [sic].”

Another message received by police officers reads #Bluflu and urges officers to call in sick on Independence Day.

“Police officers like you and me took an oath to protect strangers regardless of race, class or gender,” the message reads. “Today we are vilified and must stand as one.”

It then gives instructions for a sickout, telling members to call their precinct and request a sick day. If they are denied, the message instructs them to call the main NYPD sick desk. If that doesn’t work, officers are instructed to report for duty — then ask for an ambulance so they can go home sick.
