Oregon seeks to end ‘white supremacy culture with respect to math’

A mathematics guide sent out to Oregon schools offers a glimpse of the kind of future socialist leftists want: one in which the lazy and uneducated rule, because the entire idea of traditional education has been deemed … racist.

The guide tells teachers that requiring students to show their work in math class — a way of ensuring that the proper method is being used, instead of guesswork or cheating — is a form of white supremacy.

According to The Daily Wire, an email sent out by the Oregon Department of Education pushed educators to take a course called “A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction.”

An 82-page instructional guide that comes with the course sets out the ways white supremacy is inflicted on math students.

“White supremacy culture infiltrates math classrooms in everyday teacher actions,” the guide warns darkly. “Coupled with the beliefs that underlie these actions, they perpetuate educational harm on Black, Latinx, and multilingual students, denying them full access to the world of mathematics.”

As if nonwhite students are not able to handle math.

The guide sets out a yearlong plan for “deconstructing racism in mathematics.” It calls for “visibilizing [sic] the toxic characteristics of white supremacy culture with respect to math.”

Examples of classroom actions that supposedly inflict white supremacy include asking students to show work, emphasizing correct answers, which is nothing less than the entire point of math, and giving grades, which allows students who excel at math to be recognized.

The guide calls the need for students to show their work “a crutch” for teachers to understand what students are thinking. This is considered white supremacy because it allegedly reinforces “paternalism” and “worship of the written word,” or in other words:

Being able to write is just as racist as being able to do math.
