Giving voice to the likely thoughts of many Americans, faced either with a permanent and corrupt leftist tyranny or the relative simplicity of fighting back, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has said that his state should secede from the United States if Democrats “fundamentally” ruin the country.
Cruz added, however, that “he is not ready to give up on America yet.”
Speaking at an event at Texas A&M last month, Cruz said “there may come a point where it’s hopeless” if Democrats and allied Republicans end the filibuster, pack the Supreme Court, make Washington D.C. a state, federalize elections and institutionalize voter fraud, The Hill reports.
“I think Texas has a responsibility to the country, and I’m not ready to give up on America. I love this country,” said Cruz, as part of his response to a question posed by a student in the audience who asked him about the Texas secession movement.
“We’re not there yet,” Cruz assured spectators, adding: “If there comes a point where it’s hopeless, then I think we take NASA, we take the military, we take the oil.”
Cruz called Texas “an amazing force keeping America from going off the cliff” and “keeping America grounded in the values that built this country.”
The Texas Nationalist Movement has described its mission as being “to secure and protect the political, cultural and economic independence of the nation of Texas and to restore and protect a constitutional Republic and the inherent rights of the people of Texas.” The movement’s website stated that this “means that Texans determine our own laws and not 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats in Washington.”
