An upcoming fundraiser to be held at Mar-a-Lago, hosted by ACT for America, a group opposed to Islamic extremism and has over 1 million members was canceled by the Trump Organization.

Spokeswoman for the Trump Organization, Amanda Miller, told The Post, Sunday afternoon in an email that, “This group absolutely will not be hosting their event at Mar-a-Lago.”

There were no additional details provided, including the name of the person who initially approved the fundraiser event.

On Saturday, the group broke the news that the annual fundraiser shall be hosted at the President’s private club, and that Michelle Malkin, who is a political commentator, conservative blogger, and author is scheduled to be the keynote speaker.

The Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, Council on American-Islamic Relations, immediately issued a statement on Saturday to denounce the event.

CAIR’s national communications director, Ibrahim Hooper, in an email to The Palm Beach Post wrote, “It is totally inappropriate that an Islamophobic hate group would be in effect funneling money to the president of the United States by holding an event in one of his properties.”

Hooper was surprised at the cancellation of the event, saying “It’s something we obviously welcome. I think the administration did the right thing. Cooler heads prevailed.”

Editor’s note from Martin Mawyer: Though it’s clear the Trump Organization cancelled the event, there could be other reasons for the cancellation other than CAIR’s complaint that ACT for America is a “Islamophobic hate group.” Though I have no inside knowledge of the cancellation, I do know that Mar-A-Lago has very strict policies preventing organizations from using the Mar-A-Lago name to promote events at the private club. The very fact that CAIR was able to learn of the event at Mar-A-Lago would indicate that this violation probably occurred.
