Trump supporters flocking to unbiased social media app Parler

As Facebook and Twitter ban speech with which their management disagrees, and the platform Reddit “quarantines” and then shuts down its entire, thriving community of President Trump supporters, a new social media app is growing in popularity among those who want actual free speech online.

MailOnline reports that Parler, which bills itself as an unbiased alternative to Twitter and Facebook, has seen a large spike in sign-ups thanks to supporters of President Trump who want to escape censorship on these other established but bias-contaminated platforms.

The sudden interest in Parler, founded only two years ago in 2018, was sparked by a recent announcement from the Trump campaign that it might start to communicate via Parler instead of on Twitter and Facebook. Conservatives had already been trying out the platform in reply to leftist policing of political content on the more mainstream platforms.

According to CNBC, well-known GOP lawmakers and prominent right-wing personalities such as Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio and a strong supporter of Donald Trump, Rep Elise Stefanik of New York and former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, have joined Parler.

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas joined the platform in early June, while Rep. Devin Nunes of California has been on Parler since February. Both were beaten to the punch by Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who has been on the app since 2018.

‘It’s about time y’all joined me on @parler_app,’ Paul, a libertarian, tweeted recently. ‘What’s taking the rest of you so long?!’

Parler’s influential conservative members also include both of Trump’s grown sons, Don Jr. and Eric Trump, the president’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, his 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale, and political commentator Candace Owens.

The president himself, who has 82.5 million followers on Twitter and tweets daily, has yet to switch to Parler despite repeatedly calling out the social media giant for flagging some of his recent tweets for what it characterized as advocating violence or promoting untruths.
