In a scathing last-minute report released on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Trump administration’s 1776 Commission excoriates what it calls “re-education attempts” that have attempted to portray the United States as “an evil country.”
According to Dailymail.com, the 45-page report describes “destructive scholarship” that the commission says paints the history of slavery and race discrimination in the nation’s schools and colleges in an inaccurate light. The document goes on to describe American liberals as similar to the World War II Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini, who the commission said “sought to centralize power under the management of so-called experts.”
“States and school districts should reject any curriculum that promotes one-sided partisan opinions, activist propaganda, or factional ideologies that demean America’s heritage, dishonor our heroes, or deny our principles,” the report urges.
President Donald Trump created the commission last September to promote “patriotic education” amid nationwide racial injustice protests. He said at the time that American heritage was under assault by fanatical revolutionaries and called for a “pro-American” curriculum for schools.
The panel, he said, would have the job of encouraging educators to teach students “about the miracle of American history” and plan for the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
